Congratulations Becki Coombe of The LEC, Winner of the Woman Who…Achieves for a Charity or Social Enterprise Award

Congratulations Becki Coombe of The LEC (Learn2 Education Centre), Winner of the Woman Who…Achieves for a Charity or Social Enterprise Award.

The LEC is a small educational charity, founded and run by Becki Coombe, that works with disaffected, disengaged and vulnerable young people and adults, with an aim to ensure they do not become ‘NEET’ (not in education, employment of training) between the ages of 13-16, or to enable/support their positive and sustainable progression if they are aged between 16-25 and are NEET.

Through delivering English, Maths, Employability and certificated qualifications in our small, nurturing educational environment, we are able to both upskill and increase learners’ self confidence and self esteem, moving them closer to their overall objective.

“Winning this Award represents an absolute milestone for me. In 2007 I founded my education and training organisation, 2012 my educational charity and finally in 2017 I have been able to visibly measure our learners’ benefits, be paid a living wage and be able to maintain sustainability until for at least the following two years. I felt privileged to be able to share winning my Award with 9 guests at my table, who have each supported me in developing the ventures in significant ways throughout the last ten years. The formal recognition is never only for the Award winner and I am truly grateful for all the family, colleagues, friends and networker support I have received and continued to receive, our learners benefit directly as a consequence.”. (Becki Coombe)

The Judges selected our Winner because she has diversified and adapted her business to changing needs and become a Registered Charity. In particular, she has had the courage and conviction to “put her neck on the block” in order to achieve. Congratulations!

“We are very pleased to be on board and to be a part of these Awards and especially to be sponsoring the ‘Woman Who…Achieves for a Charity or Social Enterprise’ category. As a local business we are very passionate about supporting local groups and charities within our local communities and we also firmly believe more women need to be given the confidence to flourish and achieve. These Awards will showcase those women who are achieving and hopefully inspire others.” (Erica Kemp)
