We are delighted that Mehmooda Duke of Moosa-Duke Solicitors, Leicester Mercury Business Woman of the Year 2017 and Deputy Lieutenant for Leicestershire & Rutland will be one of our keynote speakers at The Belmont Hotel, Leicester on Thursday 18th January. The event is delivered in partnership with the FSB (Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland Region)

Mehmooda will be sharing her business journey along with Diana Esho, and other speakers.


Mehmooda Duke is the Managing Director of Moosa – Duke Solicitors. Mehmooda has over 25 years’ experience in dealing with medical negligence claims; the first 10 years were spent defending health professionals and for the last 15 years she has acted for victims of the NHS and GPs.

Mehmooda Duke graduated from Cambridge and began her career as a school teacher. However, after just a year she retrained as a lawyer and started her legal career in London in 1992.

Mehmooda was appointed President of Leicestershire Law Society in May 2015, the first Asian female in the Society’s 155 year history to hold this position. She became the public face of the organisation and steered the strategic direction of the Society. In May 2017, she became Chair.

Mehmooda sits on the Executive Board of national organisation, SCIL – The Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers and is the first female to sit on the Advisory Board of Leicestershire County Cricket Club. Mehmooda is the second Asian female to be appointed Deputy Lieutenant for Leicestershire and Rutland in the County’s history. She sits on the Governing Council of the University of Leicester. In September 2017 she won Leicester Mercury Business Woman of the Year.

Mehmooda enjoys walking in the Peak District. She has organised four 10 mile charity walks for local lawyers and business people and done two 10K runs. Over the last few years, Mehmooda, with the support of her business colleagues and friends has raised over £80,000 for a number of charities including Cancer Research, The Rik Basra Leukaemia Foundation, and the Cauda Equina Syndrome UK charity. Reading, cooking, going to the Gym and the theatre are her favourite pastimes.

Her 2018 challenge is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for ‘Healing Little Hearts’.
