We asked Woman Who Sponsor, Rob Ally, of XL Motors for some top tips to help you look after your car during the lock down.

Your car may be parked and inactive for long periods of time, especially if you are home working or are on furlough.

Rob and his team at XL Motors suggest:

HANDBRAKE RELEASE

If it’s possible and you are parked on level ground consider releasing your handbrake. As well as becoming stiff, the handbrake tightening can cause the car to become immobile. Leave your car in gear to prevent it moving. Only suitable for private parking spaces.

BATTERY MAINTENANCE

Regardless if your car engine is off, your battery will continue to run. It is essential to run your engine for a minimum of 15 mins per week. As well as recharging the battery, this keeps fluids and fuel moving through the vehicle. Speak to us if you are concerned about your battery.

TAX & INSURANCE

Throughout the lockdown period, there is no exemption on car tax and insurance. If you complete a statutory off-road notification (SORN), you do not have to pay tax. However you cannot drive an untaxed car, even in an emergency. If you do not have access to ‘off road’ parking, your car must be insured at all times.

Award winning XL Motors are sponsoring Woman Who for the 2nd year. Rob Ally, Founder and Managing Director said:

“As a business owner who employs a number of women in traditionally male roles, I was delighted to attend and sponsor the Woman Who Achieves Awards last year.

This year XL Motors are proud to be sponsoring the Growing SME Award.

I believe it’s really important to have women in business role models to inspire the next generation and I am now seeing this in my own business in the women we employ throughout the business. 21% of our staff are female.”  Rob Ally, MD, XL Motors
