Monday Motivation is back and it now features Woman Who Achieves Academy members, just one of the many perks of being in the Academy and the opportunities it provides.

Getting to know you… our Monday Motivation Feature

Name: Carol Westwood

Business Name: Bloomin’ Sexy

Who inspires you and why?

After attending the Woman Who Inspires Network in May, I have to say Kameese Davis, who started Nylah’s Naturals. She’s proof that we can put ourselves out there and showcase our ideas.

What’s your biggest achievement?

I don’t just have one! I firstly always say “raising two boys (now men) who are both kind, sensitive guys”. I successfully completed every professional qualification that I undertook. I was an accredited member of COSRT (when I did psychosexual therapy). Since retirement, it’s to have started my own business. It’s something that when younger I would never have thought possible. But I did it!

What’s your top business tip?

Join a network of other business owners from the outset, and ask advice from others in your specialised field. Learn from them.

What’s your favourite quote?

Michelle Obama “You don’t have to be somebody different to be important. You’re important in your own right.

and just for fun…

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A nurse and midwife.

Who would you love to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Phillip Pullman. We’d set the world to rights!

Tell us about an embarrassing moment (one you can laugh about now).

I was working as a Health Visitor, was pregnant, and extremely tired. I parked my car on double yellow lines outside the clinic where I worked with the hazard lights on, to take baby scales inside. I was so tired, I rested my head on my arms, on the desk….and fell fast asleep. The clinic receptionist saw me, closed the office door quietly, fielded all phone calls, and left me to it for a couple of hours. Result? The car battery went flat. I had to have a push start (helped by the friendly town traffic warden).
