Getting to know you… our Monday Motivation Feature

Name: Amanda Harris

Business Name: alh legal Will Writers Ltd

Who inspires you and why?

My husband is my constant inspiration.

Since losing his sight almost 15 years ago, he has continued working full time for the council and has had a promotion.  He does all of the cooking in our house and a lot of the cleaning.  He is a fantastic dad.

What’s your biggest achievement?

Apart from raising a wonderful young man to the age of 14, it would have to be running my Will Writing business for ten years.  I have clients who recommend me to friends and family and many of my clients have become friends.

What’s your top business tip?

Don’t give up on your dreams.  Nobody else knows what you want to do and what you can do.

What’s your favourite quote?

Be yourself, everyone else is already taken”  Oscar Wilde

and just for fun…

What did you want to be when you grew up?

An actress.  I still appear on stage in amateur productions.  My last part was as a lion!  Photos not to be shared.

Who would you love to be stuck in a lift with and why?

Stephen Fry.  He is so knowledgeable about the world and a great storyteller, which would pass the time.  Plus he is very tall, so could possibly reach the hatch in the top to escape (or does this only exist in films?).  Plus his voice is so reassuring – I would like him as an uncle.  He has also been very open in sharing his battles with bipolar disorder, which is very brave.

Tell us about an embarrassing moment (one you can laugh about now).

I was on stage in a production in front of 100 people.  I had to walk on and sit in a deck chair.  As soon as I sat down the chair collapsed!

I was wearing a dress and was worried that I was showing my knickers!  I was also worried that I wouldn’t be able to get up again.  But I carried on with my lines regardless and managed to get up at the end of the scene.

In the interval the stage crew put the chair up again, but the same happened again in the second half.  I must have been bright red in the face, but apparently some of the audience thought it was part of the show!  We invested in a new deck chair before the second night!
