STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics
Introducing last year’s winner, Sue Tonks of HydroVeg Ltd Winner of the Woman Who Achieves in a STEM Business Award 2020, Sponsored by Imaginate Creative
Sue has now come on board as a Judge and Sponsor for 2021.
The Woman Who Achieves & Solopreneur Awards take place on Friday 1st October at Coombe Abbey Hotel. Last year we weren’t able to hold a face-to-face event so we took the Awards online.
With no background in manufacturing and zero experience of hydroponic gardening, Sue Tonks created HydroVeg Kits® in June 2017. Sue’s idea started as something for herself and grew dramatically into a major product today.
A HydroVeg Kit® grows healthy veg outdoors, 365 days a year, with no digging, weeding, pesticides, slugs or snails, and 70% less watering. It provides households and schools with a green way to grow a high yield veg and flowers. It is perfect for small gardens, people with disabilities, schools, or no time for gardening. A business meeting today’s increasing needs of a sustainable life.
What the Judges said:
“A previous finalist Sue has taken Judges previous feedback to evolve and adapt, moving it from a hobby interest into an exciting, growing business using innovative technology. She inspires young and old to engage in a practical way with STEM.”
“I am still absolutely amazed at winning the ‘Woman Who Achieves in a STEM’ Business Award.
This was the third time I entered this category. It meant so much for me and HydroVeg to gain recognition in this particular category. Call me tenacious!!
Twice a finalist, I listened to the advice of the Judging Panel and worked on my business to make it better. This has worked as my business is more focused and successful as a result. Each time I entered the awards it gave me the opportunity to review HydroVeg – our plans, objectives, our progress, and identify strength and weaknesses. This “annual review” has kept me and Hydroveg striving forward, looking for improvements and recognising when we are WINNING!!”
Congratulations to all the 2020 Finalists in this category
