Getting to know you… our Monday Motivation Feature
Name: Lisa Newport
Business Name: Lisa Newport Style
Who inspires you and why?
Mary Portas – a strong, successful woman in business who is heart centred and campaigning for change to create a better future for women in the world of work.
What’s your biggest achievement?
Raising over £10k to date for cancer charities (in my mum’s memory) by organising clothes swap fundraising events.
They are win-win for all involved – mega sense of community spirit, afternoon tea, an informative talk about colour and style, get rid of clothes that are languishing in your wardrobe, take home things ‘new to you’ for free, everything that is left over goes to the Sharewear Clothing Scheme
Love coordinating them!
What’s your top business tip?
Be consistent and keep the faith. Recognise your exclusive skills set, knowledge and experience. Appreciate that you are one of a kind and embrace that uniqueness. Your journey is pertinent. Everything in you’ve encountered in life has been relevant to get you to where you are today.
What’s your favourite quote?
‘You always had the power my dear you just had to learn it for yourself.’ Glinda the good witch, Wizard of Oz
and just for fun…
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher, then a special effect make-up artist.
Who would you love to be stuck in a lift with and why?
I’d love to be stuck in a lift with Graham Norton because I think he’s very funny, a great conversationalist and we wouldn’t get bored.
Tell us about an embarrassing moment (one you can laugh about now).
Pub beer garden, in the dark, mistaking a hedge for a seat and falling through it backwards onto a lawn. Didn’t spill a drop!
