SAVE THE DATE: The Woman Who Achieves Awards 2022 will take place on Friday 1st July.

Joey Gamper Cuthbert, Winner of the Woman Who Achieves Just Starting Out Award 2021I am absolutely thrilled that Squad Safe has been selected as a finalist! After years as a safeguarding officer for dance and cheerleading organisations, wishing someone would create child protection training and resources designed specifically to tackle the issues faced by cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics, I finally stopped waiting and stepped up!

Receiving recognition for this from outside of the sports sector is a real honour! (Linsey Luke (FSB) with Joey Gamper Cuthbert (Squad Safe)

8 months ago, Joey launched Squad Safe; a safeguarding consultancy focused on child protection in Cheerleading, Dance, and Gymnastics. A former dancer, cheerleading athlete, Head coach, and programme owner, as well as a qualified Designated Safeguarding Officer, Joey offers coaches and gym owners consultation, policy writing, and a CPD certified training course she wrote herself, focused on tackling the specific safeguarding and athlete welfare issues that arise within these sports.

Her mission is to ensure that young people get to experience these incredible sports in a safe and positive environment.

Joey’s passion and dedication to make a difference within a difficult and diverse sector shows what she has achieved in a very small space of time. Through a belief that change needed to happen within safeguarding policy and delivery throughout Dance, Cheerleading, and Gymnastics, she has become a leading force for change. She is gaining rapid results and recognition for her work and is driving change within Sporting Bodies and Organisations all around the world.

‘I’m extremely honoured and humbled to have received “The One to Watch” accolade at the Woman Who Achieves & Solopreneur Awards 2021, which feels surreal given the high standard of entries.

The judges’ comments and enthusiasm for my products and brand ethos were mind-blowing which has made me want to push harder and step out of my comfort zone.

I would like to thank Sandra Garlick MBE, the Academy, my family, and everyone who has supported me.

I’m so excited to see what the future holds’.

After a long corporate career, the dream to start my own business, and the creative process to design and make glass, has been a huge personal undertaking. To have my business and this personal dream acknowledged by Woman Who has meant a great deal to me.

My awards interview was one of the most valuable experiences I have had professionally, and I am so grateful for the advice and support I have received. To be selected as a finalist and be on stage with so many brilliant women, running brilliant businesses was just a joy and an absolute privilege
